Bharti Airtel has launched its direct to home satellite TV service , Airtel digital TV , which will be available to customers through 21,000 retail points including Airtel Relationship Centres in 62 cities across India starting October 9 , 2008.
According to the company , Airtel digital TV uses MPEG4 standard with DVB S2 technology, which claims to provide better picture clarity and high quality audio. This latest technology is also claimed to enable delivery of more complex interactive content and is high definition ready. Airtel digital TV also uses 20% larger dish antenna that is claimed to offer better performance during rains. The company claims that the direct to home satellite (DTH) TV service offers universal remote both for set top box and TV; high set top box memory; exculsive content such as World Space Radio ; Interactive applications such as iMatinee , Travel , iShop and Widgets Update.
